The Olympic Flame will be carried the length and breadth of Cardiff  by 30 Cardiff torchbearers as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

The route was announced by the London 2012 Organising Committee, and Cardiff is one of four Welsh destinations to host the torch during its 70 day, 8,000 mile journey around the UK.

The relay will start at Land’s End on May 19 and will arrive at the Olympic Stadium in London for the opening ceremony on July 27.

The torch will be picked up by the first Cardiff torchbearer at Newport Road at 5.32pm on Friday May 25, and will then travel through Rumney and Roath, past Boulevard de Nantes and then on to North Road, Castle Street and St Mary Street.

From St David’s Hall it will go through to Wood Street, past the Millennium Stadium, along Tudor Street, Clare Street and Castle Street before reaching Bute Park, where a free concert called Move to the Beat is to take place.

The 30 Cardiff torchbearers were selected by public nomination or the London 2012 Organising Committee partners, Coca Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.
