A unique art project is once more taking to the streets to share original artworks around Cardiff.

Papergirl Cardiff is a free event which looks to combine art and cycling. The organisers are collecting works by artists from across South Wales, which will then be distributed across Cardiff by volunteers on bicycles, who will give away the pieces to members of the public.

The event originated in Berlin and similar Papergirl events have since taken place in cities around the world, including San Francisco, Brisbane and Manchester.

This will be the second year the event has been held in Cardiff. Last year 30 cyclists gave away over 300 pieces to people across the city.

Anyone can submit artworks to be included in the project and any works will be considered as long they are a less than 60cm wide, and can be safely rolled up on a bicycle. Last year sketches, prints, paintings, photographs and textiles were all given away.

Laura Howe, one of the event organisers, said: “The idea of gifting a stranger with a piece of original artwork appeals to people. Giving something you have put effort and energy into to someone you don’t know and anticipating their reaction is a good feeling.

"Likewise taking part in the distribution ride, where you get to hand out artwork to passers-by, is a lot of fun and a rewarding experience.”

The final deadline for submitting work is May 11, but there will also be an additional workshop for children held on May 13 at The Printhaus gallery, Llandaff Road, which will be the final chance for submissions to be made. Entry is £4 for adults, and £2 for children, who will be able to create printed posters, bags and t-shirts.

Anyone looking to submit art or volunteer as a distributor can email the organisers at papergirlcardiff@gmail.com, contact them on Twitter @PapergirlCDF, or find them on Facebook.
