Tired of the same old Mother’s Day gifts? Sometimes the best way to show your Mum how much you care is by adding a homemade touch.
Body scrubs are a staple gift this time of year and, believe it or not, they’re easy to whip up at home with a few ingredients found in your kitchen cupboard.
Our lemon and honey sugar scrub is great to scrub tired feet and hardworking hands, sluicing away dirt and dead skin leaving it feeling nice and smooth afterwards.
The lemon gives the scrub a light fragrance, which is great if your Mum doesn’t like overpowering smells. It also acts as an antiseptic and is famed for its cleansing power.
Honey is a great ingredient which has been used in beauty products for years because of its moisturising properties and it works well with the easily absorbed olive oil to leave your skin feeling soft after a good scrub.
What you’ll need:
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. natural honey
1 tsp. of lemon juice
A clean, empty jam jar
First, soak your jam jar in a bowl of boiling hot water. Wait for it to cool down and peel off the label.
Pop your sugar in a mixing bowl and begin adding the olive oil.
Mix as you go, taking care the sugar isn’t saturated by the olive oil. To get the best scrub, the sugar should still be rough enough to have an effect.
When you’re satisfied with the consistency, add the honey and the lemon juice, mixing well.
Sprinkle in the lemon zest to add a bit of colour. Pop it into your container and you’re almost done!
If that flavour wasn’t for you, there are pleanty of alternatives for you to try your hand at.
You don’t have to limit yourselves to our recipe, there are plenty of other ingredients you can play with for different fragrances.
Instead of olive oil, try almond oil for a sweeter scent or jojoba oil with its high content of vitamin E.
You could also add any essential oil of your choice. Does your Mum love the smell of lavender? Add a few drops instead of lemon and you’re good to go! You could even replace the sugar with salt.
It may seem like quite a few steps, but we promise you it’s as easy as it sounds. Be your own dermatologist.
