Plaid Cymru kicked off their campaign for the Assembly elections yesterday with the launch of their new slogan: for a better Wales.
Party leader Ieuan Wyn Jones AM said the slogan reflected their hopes for Wales following the resounding yes vote in last Thursday’s referendum.
“It’s about looking beyond the referendum and focusing on what we want to achieve.
“We want to use these new powers to create a better Wales, to improve standards in education and health and create a more prosperous economy.”
He described the referendum result as excellent, saying it exceeded expectations though he admitted turnout could have been higher.
While he acknowledged Plaid were unlikely to win a working majority outright in the May elections, he said the party were focusing on increasing their share of seats.
Nerys Evans AM, Plaid’s candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, said the slogan reflected the party’s ambitious manifesto.
She will be standing down from her regional seat to represent her home constituency.
She said: “It will be a close election. We have just eight weeks to go and we’ve already started to announce some of our policy ideas. We want to use these increased powers to transform Wales.”
