Cardiff Council have finally taken action to remove a skip which has been on a main Cardiff road for nearly four months.

The skip, owned by Caerphilly Skip Hire, was being used by builders renovating a flat above the disused Coriander Restaurant on Albany Road. But the builders haven’t been working there for more than a month and the skip had become a health and safety hazard.

Basil Turner, who works in the grocer’s opposite the restaurant, alerted The Cardiffian to the problem more than two weeks ago.

This week he told us: “The problem has got even worse. Someone’s covered the skip with a tarpaulin, but now people are dumping rubbish on the top and as it’s not secured, it is just being blown onto the road.”

The Cardiffian questioned the skip company and was told: “It isn’t our problem.”  It has emerged the council have finally told the company they must remove the skip.

A spokesperson from the council said: “We sent an inspector down to take a look at the skip. We telephoned the company yesterday and have put an order through to get it removed.”
