I notice from your Twitter feed that you are running a fuel price story/map, perhaps you might want to mention that:

a. Government figures show the cost of owning a car, including buying, servicing, insurance, etc., actually fell by 14% in real terms from 1997 to 2009; and
b. over the same period, bus and coach fares went up 24% and rail fares increased by 13%

The phoney 'war on motorists' is a myth, the much greater risk to Cardiff inhabitants' pockets is climate change. The views of the self-interested 4x4 brigade and haulier fraternity (particularly those from the Road Haulage Association, a club masquerading as a professional body) need to be set against the fact that oil is running out (e.g. www.guardian.co.uk/environment/cif-green/2011/feb/10/peak-oil-saudi-rese...), it is doing untold damage to our ability to live comfortably on this planet (e.g. www.pakistantimes.net/pt/detail.php?newsId=18835) and if we don't all start paying now it will cost us a hell of a lot more in the future (check out the Stern Report).

I wonder if while we are all talking about man-made climate change, the Sun will zap us with a bunch of X flares and it won't matter any more? The activity of our star has far more effect on our climate than human activity. We should be planning how to manage that, and not worrying about if the 4x4 'brigade' are 'self-interested', especially as my partner's 4x4 is twice as fuel economical as my standard car. And try not to be self-interested when the hauliers have to pay so much to transport your food that you're paying double the current price.

Keeping baseline costs down is important.

ASDA at Leckwith is 125.9 I think.

Thank you!

Thanks for your comment. You are right, we do need to look at the prices going up for public transport too.
