Zeitgeist Cardiff is the local chapter of The Zeitgeist Movement; a global and viral social movement which advocates a tangible and sustainable solution to our current problems of social injustice and the inequality of society at large.
This is achieved through rethinking the design of society through the humane application of the scientific method for social concern. This is a ground-up systems approach to resource management oriented around physical reality rather than subjective opinion.
Many people realise the inherent inefficiency of how we are living as a species, as we over-consume at the rate of one and a half planets a year. One billion people starve, for the sake of the monetary-market system itself - a cycle of mostly dehumanising labour, unacceptable amounts of waste and economic gaining strategies at the expense of human well-being.
However, the concept of the market system's prerequisite of competition is an environmental conditioning we are now able to grow out of. Thanks in part to technological advancement that can provide an abundance of access to the necessities of life that we collectively deny ourselves as we drift dangerously out of line with nature.
If we do not holistically use technology to our benefit we are likely to find ourselves on the receiving end of its misapplication as technological unemployment replaces human labour on a par with companies and institutions' needs to compete for market share.
In summary, we feel it is time to co-operate on a global scale to secure ourselves a happy and sustainable future or suffer ugly consequences if we pass the fabled environmental 'point of no return'.
The Zeitgeist Movement is an evolutionary phenomenon, it has hundreds of chapters all across the world operating to create awareness of this workable new direction for humanity. We say it's time to zoom out and address the social big picture.
We want to make the global conversation about the 'elephant in the room' problems in society mainstream and always be prepared to change our minds and understandings based upon new relevant and empirical information.
Zeitgeist Cardiff meets every Tuesday at 8:30pm upstairs at Cardiff Arts Institute and in less than a year has shown itself to be a working and friendly example of the progressive co-operation we advocate. All are welcome and nothing is expected.
