The Cardiffian Daily, March 19

Well, well, well. Good morning Cardiff - how’s the head? It’s been a grand slamming weekend, hasn’t it? We hope you’re not too groggy after the triple whammy of a Welsh victory, St Patrick’s Day and the inevitable party with your Mam day. So if you’ve made it to this side of Monday, here’s the best of our fair city:

How grand!

A Monday after the sheer joy of the weekend can’t be ideal. Never fear Cardiff, you can bask in the rugby glory some more at the Senedd tonight at 6pm, where First Minister Carwyn Jones will officially hand over the trophy to our victorious boys. Here’s hoping Jamie Roberts will don his sparkly cowboy hat once more!

Pamper your Mum

Did you forget to get your Mum something yesterday? Well you’re in luck, today you’ve got one more chance to make it up to her. George Thomas Hospice Care are holding a Mother’s Day Pampering Evening at the Hilton this evening. Fancy, eh? Tickets are a steal at £13 for a glass of bubbly and all the pampering treatments your Mum could desire. Make sure she’s there at 7pm, cucumber slices at the ready!

Cardiff Design Festival

The Cardiff Design Festival showcases the best Cardiff has to offer in the world of design. It’s not until October, but organisers are making an early start with their preperations and want you to be involved. Fancy helping them with their plans? Then get yourselves to the Media Point Bar in Chapter Arts at 6pm tonight armed with plenty of ideas. Do let them know you’re going, either tweet them @cardiffdesfest or give them an email.

Hoagies galore

A little birdie told us Amy Davies of the Cardiff Arcades Project will be taking some pics at the ever-popular New York Deli this week. If you haven’t ever tried their hoagies (read: MASSIVE SANDWICH ROLLS) then you haven’t lived. While you’re waiting for Amy’s photos to whet your appetite, go check out her photos of new vintage shop on the block, Vintage Zizou.

#thighs

Sometimes, we watch the rugby for one reason and one reason alone. Forget the tries... it’s all about the thighs. Or at least, according to anonymous tabloid blogger @fleetstreetfox, it is. Her live-tweeting during the rugby matches provided much entertainment on the twittersphere. She took quite the shine to Sam and the gang:

Get following for the next time it’s #thighs o’clock.

Fancy a cupcake?

Sometimes, there’s nothing much better than a cupcake or two, or maybe three... Emma Jane’s Cupcake Kitchen at the top of Crwys Road has all manner of colourful cakes for you to choose from. Great for a gift if there’s a birthday around the corner, or treat yourself to tea and cake in their newly-opened tea room. Can’t go far wrong there.

Chris T-T

Last, but not least, gig-organiser extraordinaire Typical Stereo has quite the treat for you at Gwdihw cafe tonight. Singer/songwriter Chris T-T will be playing, supported by She Makes War and Ivan Moult. There will also be a touch of DJing courtesy of Tour de Josh. Not bad for a fiver now is it? You can buy your tickets here.
