The series finale of University Challenge also marks its 50th anniversary

 

Jeremy Paxman was full of his usual unflattering, cynical mannerisms as Pembroke College Cambridge and Manchester University locked horns in the final of University Challenge last night.

Out of the 41 finals contested on University Challenge, in both the old series and the new one, colleges from either Oxford or Cambridge have won 22. Manchester has only won three.

Preview: Newport Vs Cambridge

Newport County hope to break their duck as they host Cambridge Town tonight.

Newport County host Cambridge Town tonight, looking to end a winless run which has now entered double figures.

The Exiles have home advantage, but despite seeing off Cambridge 1-0 earlier this season, manager Tim Harris is not underestimating the side nine places below them in the table.

"They do pose a threat," he said. "If you look at the results, we are actually undefeated against the teams in the top five or six.

"It is the teams lower down that we have failed to put away."
