An insight into children's story-telling from Mariella Frostrup

This programme was broadcast yesterday on BBC Radio 4 at 4pm.

We look to Scandinavian countries for examples of excellence in health, freedom, good governance, welfare, equality, peace prizes and even crime novels. But what about children’s literature?

Norwegian-born Mariella Frostrup was presumably better placed than many to present What the Scandinavians Know About Children’s Literature. The programme provided a fascinating insight into the different attitude towards children’s books and what affect this has on Nordic character.

It seems like any other night at the opera. The buzz of the audience before the show, the fidgeting in the chairs and the latecomers apologetically squeezing past their disgruntled neighbours.

The lights go down and the spotlight picks out a single figure.

"Welcome to the dress rehearsal of The Marriage of Figaro. We hope the rehearsal will run as a performance but it is nonetheless a working rehearsal.

Can the Ting Tings follow up the huge success of their debut album We Started Nothing with new album Sounds From Nowhereville?

With songs such as That’s Not My Name and Shut Up and Let Me Go to their name, The long-awaited second album  by the Ting Tings does not quite live up to expectations.

Despite being released four years after their award-winning debut album We Started Nothing, Sounds from Nowheresville leaves a lot to be desired. Of the ten tracks on the release, there is not one stand-out track comparable to the catchy sounds of the band’s first two singles.
