Gabalfa residents call for spot lights in underpass

Unhappy residents call for anti-acne lights on underpass where youths are allegedly causing a nuisance.

Gabalfa residents have called for the installation of “anti-acne” lights in an underpass which has allegedly become a safety hazard.

The pink lights, which apparently show up spots and blemishes on skin, are among a number of ideas designed to combat groups of youths who meet in the North Road underpass.

Elderly residents are apparently being made to feel uneasy by the young children who congregate around there. Others have been avoiding the North Road underpass due to personal safety concerns.

Cardiff Council rejects mandatory ID for revellers

Cardiff Council have rejected calls from South Wales Police to introduce a condition requiring clubs to scan their patrons' ID.

Cardiff Council have rejected calls from South Wales Police to introduce a condition requiring clubs to scan their patrons's ID.

South Wales Police suggested last October that people who want entry into venues with the ID system will have to allow the club to scan their driver’s licence and in some cases, fingerprints.

Supermarket plans have shopkeepers worried

Local business owners in Cardiff are feeling the pressure as supermarket giants take over the business districts in the suburbs.

There are currently 26 Tesco and Sainsbury's chain stores within a five-mile radius of the city centre, with a further four developments in the pipeline.

One of the most controversial proposals is Sainsbury's takeover of the unit previously occupied by Maskrey's furniture store on Whitchurch Road, Gabalfa.
