Cardiff South and Penarth MP Stephen Doughty gave a reaction to the budget announcements given at Thursday’s Cardiff Council meeting.

Cardiff Council's Cabinet are having to propose some very difficult choices at a difficult time for the city's finances.

But let's not forget that they are having to do this because of the cuts being handed down from the Tory-Lib Dem government in Westminster, not to mention the massive pressures that the Council is expected to face in coming years as a result of policies like Tory-Lib Dem bedroom tax.

We would hope a Welsh nationalist party would want a better Wales as a matter of course, but Ieuan Wyn Jones feels he needs to make this clear to us.

The conclusions of a public sector pensions review will be published on Thursday, following a weekend in which Cardiff saw protests, Welsh Conservative party promises and a Lib Dem conference.

The review will affect millions of workers - teachers, civil servants and NHS staff in particular.

They will be expected to work longer before drawing their pensions, contribute more to the scheme, or accept adjustments to the final pension figure.

Wales's First Minister, Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, joined Cardiff's unions in a protest against the cuts in Sofia Gardens.

Wales's First Minister, Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, joined Cardiff's unions in a protest against the cuts yesterday in Sofia Gardens.

The protest, hosted by Wales TUC, saw speeches from union leaders such as Sian Wibilin of Wales TUC and Len McClusky of Unite, as well as Mr Jones.

Unions united at Sofia Gardens, Cardiff, on the same day the Welsh Conservatives held their Spring Conference at the SWALEC Stadium and the Liberal Democrats held theirs at the Barceló Cardiff Angel Hotel.

Caroline Lucas, leader of the Green party and its only MP, addressed the party's spring conference at the Angel Hotel in Cardiff today.

Ms Lucas, who holds the only seat for the Green Party in Westminster, addressed party members ahead of May's Assembly election where they hope to win their first seat in Wales.

Jake Griffiths, leader of the Welsh Green Party will be standing for South Wales Central and Penarth, joining four other Green candidates across the five electoral regions.

The Riverside by-election on March 3 will see Riverside Market founder Steve Garret take on, among others, the Lib Dems' Gwilym Owen, who runs the market's website.

When Steve Garrett agreed to stand for Plaid Cymru in the forthcoming Riverside by-election, he would have expected the usual competition from candidates of other parties.


What the founder of the Riverside Market may not have expected, however, was to see the name of a colleague on the ballot sheet.


The Liberal Democrats named Gwilym Owen as their candidate to replace the outgoing Councillor Gwenllian Lansdown, pitting Steve against the man who has run the Riverside Market’s website for the past seven years.
