Tucked away on Womanby street the new venture by the people behind Buffalo Bar, 10 Feet Tall and Undertone offers premium beer and lots of meat.

CARDIFF’S Fire Island opened just two months ago but is already drawing the customers in. Located on Womanby Street, the American-style bar offers slow cooked and BBQ meat dishes with speciality beers, in an informal atmosphere.


The décor is industrial yet surprisingly comfortable and the venue has many rooms to offer depending on the occasion. After work drinks or casual dinner can be taken downstairs, where there are bare brick walls and exposed metal beams, with padded diner style booths to sit in.

Cardiff Devils swept aside the Edinburgh Capitals 10-4 at the Cardiff Ice Arena last night to secure fourth spot in the Elite League.

Gerard Adams, Scott Dobben and Jamie Vanderveeken got things underway for Cardiff with scores in the first period, but it was in the second 20 when Cardiff really cut loose with seven goals in a devastating spell.

An overtime goal by captain Stuart MacRae earned Cardiff Devils a hard-fought victory over Coventry Blaze

Cardiff Devils sealed a fine overtime win over Coventry Blaze last night with a captain’s goal from leading scorer Stuart MacRae.

The Canadian rifled Phil Hill’s layoff into the top corner for 3-2 to send Devils fans wild after an engrossing contest in which they were behind for a long spell.

Kenton Smith had put the Devils 1-0 up at 6.15 in the first period with an assist from Scott Matzka, but Blaze hit back through Kralj Matic before going 2-1 ahead at 7.34 in the second period.

After back-to-back wins, the Cardiff Devils are hoping to stick to their winning ways in Saturday's match versus Coventry Blaze.

Cardiff hockey fans will be reminded of things beyond sport when the Devils meet Coventry Blaze in the Bay tomorrow evening.

A minute’s silence is scheduled before the match for Todd Dutiaume, player-coach of the Fife Flyers, whose wife Kelly, 38, died suddenly at the end of last month while pregnant with twins.
The Devils will also stage a bucket collection for funds to support the family with help from Kate Lyle, wife of goalie Steve Lyle, and others among the players’ wives and girlfriends.

Cardiff firefighters have been working throughout the day put out a fire fuelled by 150 tonnes of scrap metal.

The South Wales Fire Service received a call reporting the blaze at 10:45 am on Sunday morning.

Copious amounts of smoke could be seen coming from the site of European Metal Recycling in Downais Wharf, Cardiff.

Five fire engines from stations at Cardiff Central, Ely, Whitchurch and Roath attended the incident.

Firefighters have been attempting to extinguish the blaze using four ground monitors and one jet.

A Cardiff street was cordoned off after a fire started in a city centre building at midday today.

It is thought around 500 employees were evacuated from Dominion House, Principality, and surrounding buildings on Queen Street.

The fire is thought to have started after an electrical transformer overheated. 

A fireman at the scene said: "We think it started in the Dominion's Arcade, but we can't be sure yet."

40 people evacuated due to a fire in the early hours.

A block of flats in Cardiff Bay was evacuated today after a fire broke out in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters were called out to the Bute Crescent building at 1.31 am to deal with the first floor fire, which lasted for around two hours.

Forty people were evacuated from the 30 flats and nobody was seriously injured, with all residents accounted for.

The flames were extinguished and South Wales Fire Service are investigating the cause of the incident.
