Pompeii and Green garden

Pompeii, Bastille
4/5

London indie-rock band Bastille have not been on the scene for long but they are causing a stir and new single Pompeii proves why. Pompeii is their third official single from their forthcoming debut album Bad Blood released this March.
A blend of staccato keyboard synths, slick drum rolls and harmonised backing chants gather energy and there’s no denying the catchiness of the track.

We review Port of Morrow

After four years and a turnover of band members it comes as no surprise to find  veteran indie band The Shins sound has substantially altered on new album Port of Morrow. Gone is the experimental nature of their last record, replaced with tunes aimed firmly at the airwaves.

Tracks such as Simple Songand Bait and Switch rejoice in their pop nature, with simple uplifting instrumentals coupled with a crisp, clear vocal.

The first album by the X Factor finalist seems rushed to Rebecca Jones.

Marcus Collins

Marcus Collins

***

Despite losing the X Factor title to girl group Little Mix, runner-up Marcus Collins has successfully released his self-titled debut album relatively quickly.

The former hairdresser seems to have fallen down in this first release as, although very soulful, it excludes the extra edge needed to take a soul album just one step further.

Trying to pigeon-hole Enter Shikari is impossible. No matter how hard you try explaining their political post-hardcore dub-step to a newcomer, it always results in the same confused faces.

Trying to pigeon-hole Enter Shikari is impossible. No matter how hard you try explaining their political post-hardcore dub-step to a newcomer, it always results in the same confused faces. Their new album, A Flash Flood of Colour, is no different.

Mixing crushing guitar riffs, rave style bass and lyrics showing a political and socio-economical knowledge people twice their age would be proud of, there are few albums out there like this.

The Mercury prizewinners are in Cardiff touring their new album Build A Rocket Boys.

Few records have transformed a band quite like The Seldom Seen Kid has done Elbow. Although they are in Cardiff primarily to promote their new album Build A Rocket Boys, it is the aforementioned work which provides the show’s highlights.

Lead singer Guy Garvey is the consummate host, clad in a sharp three-piece suit and charming the crowd with a number of witty anecdotes between songs.
