WE SEE dragons a lot in Cardiff. The beast proudly flown on the Welsh flag is a reminder of the country’s national pride and heritage. But another symbol, less easily spotted on St Mary Street, also means a lot to the city.

This weekend will be the exception: you can expect to see shamrocks everywhere when the city is wreathed in green for St Patrick’s Day on Sunday. But we haven’t just adopted the day as an excuse for a booze-up. Wales has historic links with Ireland, and its capital was built by Irish hands.

Today's train disruptions show that Cardiff can never be the economic powerhouse it wants to be while its inhabitants can't even get use its public transport system.

When are Arriva trains going to learn? Not only have we suffered strikes over one of Cardiff’s busiest periods of the year- the Six Nations- today passengers have had to endure more disruption after a power cut.

Although it was through no fault of their own (this time), what is of upmost concern to this paper is that Arriva Trains did not have a contingency plan to deal with the problem.

Cardiff is the driving force of our economy and delays like today are going to have a serious implication on businesses.
