Liz Day takes a look at the irreverent puppet musical Avenue Q ,with songs which would make a Muppet blush. Although, its X-rated humour has proved a big hit with audiences across the globe and ,this week, Cardiff was no different.

With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Avenue Q is a mischievous and irreverent coming-of-age tale, which satirises the anxieties of modern adulthood.

Set on a fictional street in the outskirts of New York, the musical follows the trials and tribulations of a group of neighbours, who have become disenchanted with their lives, as summed up by the song It Sucks to be Me.

London Graffiti collective BRS are transforming a Llandaff North warehouse into a tribute to New York art.
Painting is already in progress and the exhibition will take place at The Boiler House, a converted warehouse on the Andrews Road industrial estate.

Painting is already in progress and the exhibition will take place at The Boiler House, a converted warehouse on the Andrews Road industrial estate.

BRS consists of graffiti artists Four, Ders, Skyhigh, Choc and Born, who have spent a week spray-painting the walls of the warehouse to get it ready in time for the launch party tonight.

“ We are trying to do some real funky stuff with this exhibition,” Born told The Cardiffian.

Zoe Francis performs at Cafe Jazz.

Zoe Francis started singing jazz while living in New York attending Dr. Barry Harris workshop on a weekly basis, alongside singing at jams sessions around Brooklyn and Manhattan including Arturos in Greenwich Village where resident pianist Harry Whitaker plays with his trio and Smalls after hours jam.

Before long she had long running spots in midtown Manhattan working with great musicians including Warren Vache, Joe Cohn, Chris Flory, Harry Allen, Alvester Garnett, Steve Ash and Harry Whitaker.

Scoundrels and missionaries collide in this spirited performance

Guys and Dolls is an energetic and entertaining production which sees the worlds of the Salvation Army missionary and the lowlife craps player collide on the streets of New York with comical consequences.

Cast members double up as the onstage musicians to provide a welcome change from the traditional formula.

The all-singing, all-dancing guys and dolls leave audience members feeling the urge to get up and join in.
