The ethereal quality of John Piper's work sheds new light on Wales's spectacular mountains and is on display at the National Museum Cardiff until May 3.

Twentieth century painter and printmaker John Piper is best known as a war artist. But a one-off exhibition at the National Museum Cardiff has given viewers a unique chance to see some of his lesser-known works, inspired by the north of Wales.

The exhibition, which displays extraordinary paintings and drawings from a private collection, is called the Mountains of Wales and brings together his dramatic depictions of the landscapes of Snowdonia.

Hockney conveys his vivid imagery in the 33 prints on show

A new David Hockney exhibition just opened at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, but where the Yorkshire-born artist’s headline-grabbing Royal Academy show A Bigger Picture is all about scale and colour, David Hockney and The Brothers Grimm is a more muted and intimate affair.

Coinciding with this year’s 200th anniversary of the publication of the first Grimm’s Fairy Tales volume, the centre has on show 33 prints reproduced from original etchings done by Hockney in the late 1960s.

Jesus appears to residents in Rhiwbina.

A Banksy-esque Jesus has appeared in a Cardiff suburb as part of a church's preparation for Easter.

A modern-day image of Jesus has been painted on to the outside wall of Canolfan Beulah Community Centre in Rhiwbina.

The typical depiction of Jesus as a bearded man with out-stretched arms exists, but with a couple of subversions: a t-shirt and jeans.

The Cardiff Arts Institute's Life Drawing classes have been exceptionally popular. We find out why.

Drawing is something many people do for relaxation. It can often provide an escape for people with stressful jobs or be an extension of a professional life in art.

One group of artists in Cardiff proves this theory, with everyone from IT consultants to undergraduate students taking part in life-drawing sessions above a local arts bar.

Three years after quitting his high-pressure job as a SWALEC sales rep Chris Fox-James is making his living in a far more creative way.

His income may be less steady but he couldn’t be happier. He is one of very few artists whose work is available in Cardiff to work with borosilicate glass. It is one of the toughest but most rewarding mediums an artist can use.

A childhood fascination with marbles led Chris to figure out a way of creating the intricate glass designs himself.

A  comic needs the perfect setting: Gotham City; Atlantis; Hell. But what about a village in the Valleys, or the site of a multi-storey car park on Cardiff's Greyfriars Road?

A  comic needs the perfect setting: Gotham City; Atlantis; Hell. But what about a village in the Valleys, or the site of a multi-storey car park on Cardiff's Greyfriars Road?

These are some of the unlikely locations cropping up in a Welsh-made anthology set to be released at this month’s Cardiff International Comic Expo.

Built around a neat format, 10thology will showcase 10 stories of 10 pages each, created by some of the best writers and illustrators in and around South Wales.

The artist, Reverend Toddy Hoare, uses a mixture of mediums to explore spirituality and sexuality in the Bible.

Rev Hoare said: "Much of my work draws on the Scriptures to tease out feeling rather than be mere illustration, so we resonate better with our book.

"I like to draw on the Old Masters and use their work as my own figurative sketches or follow a theme of variations in their work," he added.

Cardiff artist Bryce “Best” Davies talks graffiti and why he set up The Boiler House, Wales’s first Graffiti and Street Art gallery.

GRAFFITI is an odd concept. To some it is an art form, to others it’s a political statement. To many, it’s just vandalism.

I talked to Cardiff graffiti artist Bryce “Best” Davies about what it means to him and why he set up The Boiler House, Wales’s first Graffiti and Street Art gallery.

The quiet, middle-class suburb of Llandaff North seems an odd place for the hub of graffiti art in Cardiff to be tucked away.

Her hard-hitting and politicised work has caught the eye of Prince Charles, but now artist Helen Wilson has been tasked with capturing one of Cardiff’s most vibrant communities.

Her hard-hitting and politicised work has caught the eye of Prince Charles, but now artist Helen Wilson has been tasked with capturing one of Cardiff’s most vibrant communities.

The Bristol-born painter is the artist in residence at the Butetown History and Arts Centre, and has been pouring over photograph archives from the area to get a feeling for the community throughout the ages. She hopes to reflect the unique essence of the multicultural docklands district, which the media often fail to capture.
